Using the Windows 7 Ultimate system.. final release for manufacturing version.. I connected my Dazzle 80 analog video capture device.
Windows 7 recognized the device but couldn't auto find a driver, so I installed the driver from Pinnacle that works fine on the latest version of XP.
I tried (in Windows 7) to capture video from a Hi8 camcorder using software that works with the Dazzle 80 in XP.
- Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 shows the device, and the preview from the camcorder. It goes through all the motions as if it's successfuly capturing, but when finished no video file is created. The compression settings drop down list is greyed out, showing a greyed out MJPEG choice.
- Movie Maker 1 and 2.1 work fine capturing video from my mini-DV camcorder connected by firewire, but with the Dazzle connected I instantly get a blue-screen of death when I select Capture Video. The message that appears for a second or two points to 'bad_pool_caller'.
Running Pinnacle Studio, MM1 and MM2.1 in compatibility mode for XP doesn't change things.
The issues may be different. Pinnacle Studio's might be with using codecs in the Windows 7 environment, while Movie Maker 1 and 2.1 have an issue with the Dazzle driver (which they handle fine in XP).
I'd appreciate any comments about what the underlying issue(s) might be, and how to explore them further. I'm also interested in the differences with Pinnacle uses the Dazzle 80 driver, getting almost through the process while while Movie Maker triggers a catastophic failure.
Nothing is serious or critical to my work.. I'm just exploring to learn what works and what doesn't. With each catastrophic crash, Windows 7 seems to bounce back easily and well, shrugging it off as if nothing happened.
